This year we have open a new laboratory of automation and robotics in the Department of Technical Studies at the College of Polytechnics in Jihlava. Our laboratory is equipped with a FESTO CP Factory production line in the biggest configuration in the middle Europe. This system which includes physical components and many virtual tools can be used in education, research and cooperation with industrial companies.

The main issues are considered in this topic: the main problems of the design and implementation of high-level systems for the automation of production processes are considered. As part of the digitalization of production, there is a need for the operational management of all enterprise processes at all levels of the system. The work highlights several recommendations for the development of integration of such systems. The research describes the interoperability of various systems of resource management, processes, laboratory, planning for obtaining quality products.

Technological developments are fast and at industry level we have fourth industrial revolution going on. More and more new
technologies are being applied to production to make it more efficient and more competitive. In order for new technologies to be better implemented and for the end user to be able to apply them to their industry, it is necessary for educational institutions to accompany the rapid development of technology and apply these new technologies in curricula.

For successful and efficient development of unified modeling framework and software process model (SPM) for MES a new approach is needed. In this paper a modeling framework and SPM that integrates UML profile for system engineering SysML, ANSI/ISA-S95 standard and MES-ML modeling language for MES modeling and specification is presented. The proposed approach is illustrated with a real industrial Pick and Place Unit. Finally some conclusions are made.

Modern products become more and more complex and along with this, the requirements for reducing time-to-market and costs are increasing continually. The demand for customized products is growing at the same rate, as well as the search for more effective and efficient utilization of resources and energy, which is already a distinguish feature of industrial development nowadays. In turn, increased agility and velocity of production processes significantly increase the requirements for modern production systems. In order for industrial companies to survive and keep their competitiveness in such a dynamic environment, they must not only increase their productivity, but to improve their operations strategy in terms of agility as well, offering their goods and services. Latter puts new challenges to modern companies.

Industry 4.0 offers an unprecedented opportunity for transformational success, but companies must have plant floor software that is ready for that journey. The fact that Industry 4.0 is already predicted means companies can prepare themselves now. This paper helped companies understand what they need to drive manufacturing in an IIoT world and the new role of manufacturing operations in the enterprise. It also discussed what Smart Manufacturing means and why companies should start the journey now, actions executives should take to address the convergence of IT and automation, and key criteria for selecting a MOM partner to support next-generation business solutions.
