    Surface treatment – effect on spring parts in the automotive industry

    In modern automotive engineering, a particular car is composed of various parts that are manufactured using a wide variety of materials and technologies and that meet the high demands of modern customers and environmental norms. In the production process of a specific article for assembling cars, a problem with springs of a certain type is found. During the planned production, assembled products began to show the same defect. The mounted springs fall spontaneously. An analysis of the possible causes was made. A visual examination was made which showed a lack of plasticity, a change in geometry and raised doubts about the thermal surface treatment. Based on the results of the performed measurements and analysis, the possible causes of the problems during production were recognized. Several conditions could have caused this:
    – Two different tools were available at the manufacturer, respectively two different technologies for the production of the springs;
    – The manufacturer used two different sub-suppliers for surface treatment;
    – insufficient corrosion protection;
    The results of the measurements show that despite the geometric deviations of the dimensions, the springs lose their function due to lack or improper surface treatment.

    The process of deposition of titanium, zirconium-containing coatings at aluminum alloy 5556 is developed. In the process of performing the work, the basic patterns of coating formation were identified. The solution composition and process parameters were optimized, and the physicochemical properties were investigated. It is shown that passivation of aluminum alloy 5556 in a titanium,zirconium-containing solution increases its corrosion resistance to pitting corrosion. These coatings can replace chromate coatings because of good ability to resist corrosion.

    The paper studies the mechanism, kinetics and morphology of phase changes primarily at heating by concentrated energy flows (CEF). The objects of study have been a medium carbon low-alloy steel 37Cr4 (DIN), a high-carbon tool steel X210Cr12 (DIN) and grey cast irons with flake and spheroidal graphite (GG 15, GG 30, GGG 50 – DIN) treated by plasma and electron beam heating.

    It has been established that the mechanisms of phase changes at heating with CEF differ considerably from the familiar ones and can be classified as mechanisms of the following type: of migration by plastic deformation; of migration with a wave effect; of baric migration; of thermokinetic migration and of accelerated migration under the impact of electrodynamic fields and radiation. These mechanisms have been tested and proven by the fixed imbalance conditions of the structures obtained in the experiments.

    The article proposes a new rotary tillage implement for the surface soil treatment, which is based on an analysis of existing designs. This tool can be used as a separate unit, or as part of combination machines. It provides an effective weed combing process, dropping them on the field surface, the simultaneous crumbling, creating crumbly soil structure and the rolled seed boxes for rake crops.
