• IN-SITU STRESS-STRAIN TESTING OF STEELS IN CO2-CONTAINING SALINE SOLUTIONS

    Machines. Technologies. Materials., Vol. 8 (2014), Issue 12, pg(s) 23-25

In CCS environment (carbon capture and storage) pipes and in geothermal power plants the materials used in pumps are loaded cyclically and exposed constantly to the highly corrosive hot thermal water. The lifetime reduction of AISI630 (X5CrNiCuNb16-4, 1.4542) is demonstrated in in-situ-laboratory experiments (T=60 °C, geothermal brine: Stuttgart Aquifer flow rate: 9 l/h, CO2). S-N plots, micrographic-, phase-, fractographic- and surface analysis were applied to obtain sustainable information on the corrosion fatigue behavior.

  • TRANSFORMATION OF HETEROPHASE NON-METALLIC INCLUSIONS “HIGHMELTING PHASE SURROUNDING WITH LOW-MELTING COVER” IN STEELS UNDER LASER ACTION

    Materials Science. Non-Equilibrium Phase Transformations., Vol. 3 (2017), Issue 4, pg(s) 121-125

Melting and crystallization of heterophase non-metallic inclusions “high-melting phase surrounding with low-melting cover” was investigated. It was shown that under laser action the initial structure of inclusion-steel matrix boundaries transits into unstable equilibrium high-energy condition that cause development of the dissipation processes connecting with aspiration of system inclusionmatrix to the state with minimum of free energy. In the result of the system heterophase inclusion-matrix transits to the state of unstable equilibrium which determines structure and properties of laser-quenched interphase boundary. Processes of melting, fusion and dissolution of non-metallic inclusions “high-melting phase surrounding with low-melting cover” and also of the melting of steel matrix play the great role in transformation of interphase inclusion-matrix boundaries under laser action.

  • INFLUENCE OF THERMAL-CYCLIC DEFORMATION AND HEAT TREATMENT ON THE STRUCTURE AND PHYSICAL PROPERTIES OF STEEL 10

    Materials Science. Non-Equilibrium Phase Transformations., Vol. 3 (2017), Issue 3, pg(s) 108-110

The results of the influence of preliminary thermal-cyclic deformation and subsequent annealing in the range of 100÷900 ºС with a step of 100 ºС on the microstructure, coercive force and linear expansion of hot-rolled sheet steel 10 are presented. It was found that the use of preliminary thermal-cyclic deformation results in increase in coercive force no more than by 8% in comparison with the steel sheet produced by an industrial technology. Decreasing feasibility in coercive force of the sheet steel produced with the use of thermal-cyclic forging almost by 3 times in comparison with the initial raw condition due to the subsequent annealing at 900ºС during 10 h. is shown. In addition, annealing in accordance with this mode reduces a temperature coefficient of linear expansion of a sheet steel on average by 6 % within the range of the test temperatures 50-450 ºС.

  • HARDENING LOW CARBON STEEL 10 BY USING OF THERMAL-CYCLIC DEFORMATION AND SUBSEQUENT HEAT TREATMENT

    Materials Science. Non-Equilibrium Phase Transformations., Vol. 2 (2016), Issue 4, pg(s) 10-13

The results of the influence of preliminary thermal-cyclic deformation and subsequent hardening heat treatment on the microstructure and mechanical properties of hot-rolled sheet steel 10 are presented. It is shown that the use of preliminary thermal-cyclic deformation of the steel 10 stock material results in a fine-grained structure of a hot-rolled sheet (3 mm thick) produced by an industrial technology. Deformation occurred at a temperature above AC3 (1250 °C), with cooling to 200-300 °C during 10 cycles and the deformation ratio per cycle being 6-8 %. The magnitude of the overall reduction ratio was 1.90 and the total amount of deformation was 65÷68 %. Such a treatment before sheet hot-rolling allows increasing the strength characteristics (tensile strength, yield strength) by almost 30 %. It has been established that the use of subsequent heat treatment (quenching, 900 °C, water and tempering 1 h, 600 °C) leads to a further increase in strength characteristics by 15-20 % while maintaining a sufficient level of ductility of sheet steel.

  • INFLUENCE OF CHEMICAL COMPOSITION OF TOOL STEEL ON PERMANENT PLASTICITY DURING HEAT TREATMENT TRANSFORMATIONS

    Materials Science. Non-Equilibrium Phase Transformations., Vol. 2 (2016), Issue 1, pg(s) 26-29

The work presents the research of permanent strain occurred when metallurgical transformations take place even under small stress applied externally lower than the yield stress of weaker phase. Four tool steel grades were tested: THG2000 (Uddeholm, Sweden), 20X13, 40X13 and 95X18 (GOST). All steel grades differ in carbon content and amount of alloying elements and behave differently when transformation plasticity occurs. This phenomenon was observed during bending test when bending stress was 100MPa and was less than 10 % of yield strength of the steel. The steel specimens were heated to 950-1050 °C temperature and then bent during air quenching. Plastic deflections were observed though all cooling process that involved martensitic transformation as well. Different effect of compression and tensile stresses on microstructure evolution during martensitic transformation was determined as both type of stresses formed in bent specimens.

  • INFLUENCE OF NON-METALLIC INCLUSIONS ON THE STRENGTHENING OF STEELS UNDER LASER ACTION

    Materials Science. Non-Equilibrium Phase Transformations., Vol. 1 (2015), Issue 3, pg(s) 18-24

Melting and crystallization of non-metallic inclusions in contact with steel matrix during laser treatment was investigated. It was shown that laser action is the method of local change of inclusion structure in the surface fused layers and also of the properties of non-metallic inclusion surface. Peculiarities of steel matrix saturation with elements of non-metallic inclusions during different regimes of laser action were investigated. It was shown the role of that process in the formation of local structure of steel matrix near non-metallic inclusions. That allows to realize possibility of transformation of the non-metallic inclusions how sources of inside local alloying of steel matrix. It was fixed that in local areas of steel matrix the liquation strengthened zones were formed. They represent different types of composite layers: gradiental zones with cascade and “spot” distribution of elements and nanohardness, dispersal zones with different types of microphases and nanophases, “tunnel” zones, and also zones with combine structure. It was shown the role of non-metallic inclusions in development of micro heterogeneous strengthening of steels under laser treatment.

  • INVESTIGATION OF PLASTIC DEFORMATIONS OF CARBURIZED ALLOY STEEL DURING HEAT TREATMENT

    Materials Science. Non-Equilibrium Phase Transformations., Vol. 1 (2015), Issue 2, pg(s) 34-37

The article deals with the investigation of plastic deformations of carburized medium carbon stainless steel after quenching and tempering. After carburization the specimens were heated at 1020 °C temperature and then air quenched. At the process of air quenching the specimens were bent within the temperature dropping interval approximately from 550 °C to room temperature. The bending caused tension or compression in different parts of the specimen, so interstitial distortion was formed. As the bending stress was much lower than the yield stress, the specimen didn’t bend during the first minutes of experiment, and then started bending during the martensitic transformation (transformation plasticity effect). The curved quenched specimens then were tempered at temperatures 200, 300, 400, 500, 600 and 700 °C for 1 hour and the deflection of specimen after each tempering was measured.

The results showed different influence of tension and compression on transformations occurring in steel during quenching and tempering. The tempering temperature effect on self-deformation of curved specimen was revealed.
