The aim of the present work is to study the characteristics and conditions of obtaining thin films in the BaTiO3–BaSnO3 system, deposited by the sol-gel method on monolithic multilayer samples. In laboratory conditions, the structure, phase composition, micromorphology, electrophysical parameters of the prepared experimental samples were studied. The existing possibilities for optimizing the applied technological regime for the synthesis and surface deposition of thin-layer coatings with set characteristics have been analyzed.

Dip coating is a common liquid deposition technique used in research and also for industrial production to produce polymeric, hybrid, and inorganic thin films of controlled thickness. During liquid deposition, the substrate withdrawal rate allows, in principle, easy tuning of the deposited film thickness. However, experimentally, unexplained thickness irreproducibility or strong fluctuations of sol-gel films are often observed when coating large substrates, which is a critical problem for optical coatings such as anti-reflective/reflective coatings. In this study, we present improved coatings obtained by sol gel-like multilayer structures composed of ZrO2-Y2O3 coating. The phase composition and morphology were analyzed by X-ray diffraction spectroscopy (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) suitable for characterizing the surface properties of the obtained materials.

There has been growing interest in the use of the sol-gel approach to form high-quality dielectric materials. Their tailored properties allow for developing functional electronic devices in a scalable and rapid manner. According to physicochemical principles, the displacement and response behavior of charges under an applied external field can manifest in unique dielectric properties, providing useful information to improve the process, design, and quality of electronic devices. Therefore, a systematic and in-depth investigation of the fundamentals of sol-gel dielectrics is necessary. In this Research Update, we present recent advances in various sol-gel-processed dielectric materials and their applications to functional electronic devices. A brief introduction to sol-gel chemistry to form oxide dielectric films and the basis of physical mechanisms under electrical fields are discussed. Along with the dielectric properties, recent achievements of proofof-concept experiments and their various applications to functional electronic devices are introduced. It is expected that further innovations in solution-processed metal oxide dielectrics will achieve cost-effective high-performance functional electronics in the near future.

Thin Sm-Co and Nd-Fe-B layers with a thickness of ~ 30 – 850 nm were synthesized by thermal evaporation method using permanent magnets SmCo5 and Nd2Fe14B powders as precursors on glass substrates. The crystal structure was studied by X-ray diffraction in CuKa – radiation at room temperatures. It was shown that thin films are characterized by a highly amorphized crystalline state. It was found that annealing of the films leads to the destruction of the compositions on the glass substrate. In the temperature range of 80 – 1100 K using the ponderomotive method the specific magnetization in the “heating – cooling” mode was measured. Magnetic hysteresis loops were studied in the temperature range of 5 – 300 K. In the wavelength range of 250 – 3000 nm, optical transmission spectra of transparent Sm-Co and Nd-Fe-B films with a thickness of ~ 30 nm were studied.
