It is very important to know the trends related to the structure and condition of the vehicle fleet, to be able to predict the structure of the vehicle fleet in the future. In Montenegro, it is noticed that there is a constant increase in the number of battery electric vehicles (BEVs). The share of BEVs in the vehicle fleet of Montenegro is too small to have any significant impact on CO2 emissions as well as the power system. The pandemic COVID-19 virus had a great impact on the number of registered as well as the number of newly registered vehicles. Practically, in 2020, the year of the pandemic, only an increase in the number of BEVs was recorded. It is very worrying that the number of vehicles using diesel fuel is increasing, which can be a complicating factor in efforts to reduce the negative impact of road traffic on the environment.

The subject of research of this article is the review of passenger transport by all types of traffic on the territory of Montenegro in the past few years. The number of passengers transported by rail was accompanied by a constant increase in transported passen gers from 2013 to 2016. After that, we have a drop in the number of passengers transported by rail in 2017. The number of passengers transported by road in Montenegro is constantly increasing from year to year. There has been a constant increase in the number of passengers transported at Montenegrin airports. As passenger transport is a very important activity of every country, in the last few years the state of Montenegro has been working on improving the transport infrastructure and the process of passenger transport.

The subject of research in this paper is the analysis of road traffic safety in Montenegro. Road traffic safety in Montenegro is not at an enviable level. The number of traffic accidents on the territory of Montenegro has been constantly increasing in the la st few years. The state of traffic safety in Montenegro differs significantly from most EU countries. In the last few years, Montenegro has made great efforts to improve road safety. Infrastructure is being improved, technical inspections of road vehicles are being tightened, and a larg e number of campaigns have been done to improve road traffic safety

The road traffic safety factor is divided into three basic groups: human, vehicle, road (infrastructure). Technically defective, poorly maintained and technologically obsolete vehicles endanger road safety. The number of technically defective vehicles that are involved in traffic accidents, when checks are carried out by officers of traffic police, is 0.2%. Considering that 21.31% of vehicles are found to be defective by periodical technical inspections of vehicles (PTI), it is expected that the number of technically defective vehicles in daily traffic is considerably higher. By analyzing the data collected by PTI and comparing them with the data obtained during the conducted research “Inspection of the technical safety of vehicles involved in road traffic accidents with fatalities” the real state of the technical condition and safety of vehicles on the roads in the Republic of Croatia is presented here. Two-wheel vehicles (mopeds and motorcycles) represent a particularly risky group.
