The article is devoted to the analysis of the most used additives for lubricants. The principle of their operation and the result of their work are considered. The effect of additives on the structure of surface layers on the surface of friction pairs is est imated. The analysis showed the use of only a limited number of principles of the action of antifriction additives. Theoretically promising antifriction additives for base oils, relevant for use in railway transport, have been proposed.

The paper presents experimental data on the tribological properties of commercially pure titanium with different microstructures with and without coating. As a result of the conducted experiments, it was established that the integral value of the friction coefficient, as well as its adhesion component, are structurally sensitive parameters. It is noted that the ultrafine-grained structure, obtained as a result of intense plastic deformation, contributes to the reduction of the coefficient of friction, as well as to the increase of the load-bearing capacity of tribo-conjugation.

The article presenting a results about dynamics of moment and coefficient of friction change is established by experimental research of applied layers upon steel parts through vibrating gas metal arc overlaying process with increased wire electrode vibrating frequency. It was established that increasing of the vibrating frequency at rate of 150 Hz leading to significantly shorter time for interaction of both surfaces to obtain a process of established wear.

For the purposes of testing tribological characteristics of the stainless steel X20Cr13 designed for the parts of process industry plants for the production of sunflower oil, test samples were made and heat treatment by improving on different hardnesses was performed. Final machine processing of the samples was performed out by grinding and polishing. This way, the different characteristics of the surface layer and the different surface topography were achieved. The paper presents the results of the impact of the hardness on characteristics of the stainless steel X20Cr13. By examining the resistance to the adhesion wear it was concluded that the higher wear was on the test samples which have been in the raw condition and who were also loaded by higher forces. Therefore, the quality of the surface wear greatly affects the surface roughness and the coefficient of friction.
