Influence of liberalization on long-distance rail transport in the Czech Republic

    Trans Motauto World, Vol. 4 (2019), Issue 3, pg(s) 111-113

In the Czech Republic, the rail transport market has been liberalized for several years – in addition to public services, commercial services of individual rail carriers operate too. Public services in long-distance rail transport are ordered by the Czech Ministry of Transport. In December 2019, the 10-year contract between Czech Ministry of Transport and Czech Railways will end. The approaching end of this contract was connected with great interest of other rail carriers, which led to the fact, that the Czech Ministry of Transport demanded individual long-distance rail lines in the form of so called “market consultations”. Preparing of the operational performance of individual long-distance rail lines for the needs of market consultations was a great challenge on the field of transport-planning. As a result, from December 2019 there will operate 4 different rail carriers in ordered long-distance rail transport in The Czech Republic and this situation is unique in its form and unparalleled throughout the EU.

Reefer container power supply and supervision system onboard railway wagons

    Innovations, Vol. 7 (2019), Issue 4, pg(s) 139-142

Concerns about greenhouse gas emissions and environment protection in general, lead to application of new, eco-friendly solutions in almost all areas of human activities. Today, transportation is in the focus of many researchers since transport units generate substantial emissions locally as well as globally. Turning to electricity powered transportation units seems to be a logical step if global power production transitions to renewable energy sources (large hydro, wind, solar, biomass, etc). This paper demonstrates a technical solution applicable to reefer containers railway transport, as an alternative to road transport with conventional trucks or railway transport with diesel gen-sets. In fact, reefer containers are frequently used to transport sensitive goods. Therefore, containers must be almost constantly supplied with electric power to maintain desired ambient parameters (temperature, humidity, number of air changes per hour, etc.). An innovative technical solution which provides suitable power supply to reefer containers aboard wagons has been developed and tested in real-life conditions. Electrical power is drawn from the locomotive’s single-phase, head-end-power line (usually 1500 Vac, 1500 Vdc or 3000 Vdc), available at the locomotive, or on wagons with electric installation. Throughout the paper, the developed static converter system suitable for transforming single-phase 1500 Vac, into three-phase 400 Vac, 50 Hz is presented. Furthermore, a dedicated communication system is developed which enables users to perform supervision of transported goods (temperature and relative humidity) and track the reefer container onboard railway wagons.

VEHICLE PRODUCTIVITY IN NEW OPERATED RAIL-SERVICES

    Trans Motauto World, Vol. 3 (2018), Issue 4, pg(s) 185-187

For newly introduced transport services, there´s not only the transport aspect that matters what the new service will bring to passengers, but also the operating costs are very important. In this area the systematic timetable planning plays an important role. Total costs of the transport system are significantly affected by the fixed costs, deriving from the number of regular deployed vehicles and drivers, related to the overall transport performance and total operational productivity. Advanced timetable engineering means a strong link between timetables, vehicles and infrastructure. The article demonstrates this approach on the example of the introduction of new express trains Praha – Plzeň – Cheb / München in the timetable 2017/18.

METHODOLOGY FOR RATING QUALITY STANDARDS IN REGIONAL PASSENGER RAIL TRANSPORT

    Trans Motauto World, Vol. 3 (2018), Issue 3, pg(s) 127-130

Quality has a fundamental influence to the services in passenger transport. The main objective of transport is to satisfy customers’ (passengers’) requirements on the qualitative, flexible, fast and safe carriage of people and goods. Organisers of transport (public authority), providers of transport services and their customers have a different view on the perception of quality. This fact is influenced by unsystematic assessment to the quality measurement as well as by ignorance of the interaction of the transportation the peoples with the transport system. A basic element of transport service is the movement of the rolling stock with the passenger or goods from the start to end destination. In this point of the technological process of transport, the main bearer of the quality of transport services are the vehicles and the transport infrastructure. From the perspective of the vehicle, its operation-technical and utility properties are very important. From the perspective of transport infrastructure, the operating ratios and conditions are important. Due to the content of the quality concept it is not possible to focus only on the interaction of carriage and transport infrastructure. The paper is focussed on the quality evaluation of performance in regional passenger rail transport in relation to other modes of public transport. Hereby it is necessary to know the perception of quality services as well its value for the client (passenger). Consequently it is needed to set a permanent process of quality evaluation of the provided transport services. The paper is based on the premise that the customer interests present the public ordering body (authority) of the public transportation services.

  • PROPOSAL MODERNIZATION OF NITRA – LEOPOLDOV TRACK SECTION

    Trans Motauto World, Vol. 1 (2016), Issue 1, pg(s) 33-35

The development of the regional rail transport requires impulses mainly from the infrastructure manager, in particular structural modifications of tracks. The technical and constructional layout of stations and track sections and its accessories could be change by build-constructional measures. The negative site of it is high costingness and time consuming for realization past normal traffic operation. This paper extends a general overlook on a draft of a modernization of regional lines to ensure required quality in railway transportation. The proposals are applicated for Nitra – Leopoldov track section.

  • TRANSPORT PLANNING ON THE LIBERALIZED MARKET OF PUBLIC SERVICES

    Machines. Technologies. Materials., Vol. 8 (2014), Issue 6, pg(s) 32-36

The importance of transport planning in public services gradually becomes to be fully appreciated in the context of the Czech Republic. Public transport such as investment and operationally intensive industries require a guaranteed long-term strategy, not only in the field of transport infrastructure, but also in the field of transport services. The first prerequisite for successful transport planning is the most accurate description of passenger flows, including the parameters affecting the choice of transport mode. These inputs are an important basis for additional steps: the creation of a line network, timetable design, creating circulation of vehicles and courses of staff, controlling, and any requests for infrastructure improvements. At the end of this article are referred specific practical examples, where thank to a compliance with the rules of theoretical transport planning it has been achieved the increased operational efficiency of public passenger rail-transport.
