The state of collection, storage and processing of some main waste in Bulgaria is under consideration. In accordance with the legislation in force in Bulgaria and the EU, separate collection of waste is increasingly necessary. Some examples of different types of waste show what the actual condition is and show good examples of work in this area.
The purpose of this report is to provide useful and adequate information needed to minimise dangers associated with laser radiation in military and training activities of the Army. The assessment made in the report is based on the ability of laser beam to cause biological damage to the eye during laser system’s malfunction or inability to protect the military staff from laser radiation. Laser radiation is absorbed into the outer layers of the body and therefore its biological effects are mostly limited to skin and eyes. If the laser beam strikes a person, the effects of laser radiation are characterized by a very rapid absorption of energy. The damage that is caused depends on the exposed organ and tissue and presents a particular eye hazard where the lens can focus the beam.
The problems of nuclear weapons in the contemporary international situation have been examined. The countries that own a nuclear weapon and those who have or are ready to produce and own it are presented.
The Russian Federation average about 3000 tons of uranium per year from its own mines. Russian uranium mining companies work in Kazakhstan, Canada and other countries either directly or through companies they purchase. Its businesses export fuel in all parts of the world and are getting more stable on the world market despite the sanctions imposed.
A historical aspect of uranium mining in Bulgaria has been made until its eradication in 1992. Described are the measures taken pursuant to Decree-Law No. 74 / 27.03.1998 on the liquidation of the consequences of uranium mining and processing and the gaps to be eliminated in this regard. Up to the end of uranium mining in 1992, the annual uranium yield was 660-680 t, of which 430 t was obtained by geotechnical method – drilling with drilling of the sand-type uranium. They are poor in uranium (below 0.05%), but with a few times cheaper yields (an average of $ 40 / kg for 1970-1990). Possible new uranium extraction from this type of field and mine wastewater could reach 350 t per year at a value not exceeding 80 $ / kg. It is possible to investigate and prove 40-50 000 tons of new uranium ore deposits in Bulgaria mainly in the sand-type deposits at a depth of up to 650 m.
Uranium mines operate in some 20 countries, though in 2017 some 53% of world production came from just ten mines in four countries, with these four countries providing 77% of the world’s mined uranium. Countries have different degrees of sovereign risk affecting their attractiveness for mining investment, different royalty and tax regimes, and different availability of skilled workers. These factors will have already influenced the mineral exploration which has led to the identification of an orebody before any mining issue has arisen.
There is an analysis of the major emergencies that occur in our daily lives. Technogenic emergency situations with the release of radioactive substances, separation of dangerous chemical substances and distribution of biological substances are briefly identified. Their impact on humans and the environment is shown and what action is needed to take in the event of an emergency with the release of radioactive substances and radiation.
From 11 to 17 September, the military maneuvers “East 2018” took place on the territory of the Central and Far East Military Districts of the Russian Federation with more than 300,000 participants, more than 10,000 combat units and 1,000 airplanes. Representatives of the Armed Forces of China and Mongolia took part in the maneuvers. In this exercise, there was a military controversy between two contingent opponents in order to play out different options for defense forces’ behavior.
