New temptations in the auto world in post-covid era

    Trans Motauto World, Vol. 8 (2023), Issue 2, pg(s) 57-58

Misfortunes bring people together. Wars, the Covid pandemic, pollution of the environment in which we live. According to a report from “Lancet”, nine million people die from pollution every year. The number of deaths from air pollution and chemical pollution has increased by 60% over the past two decades. Climate change took its toll in 2022 as well (floods, fires, earthquakes, drought and heat, melting glaciers). Uncontrolled urbanization and population growth are also causes. The number of people killed and injured in traffic accidents has also increased. It doesn’t have to be driven faster than life.
The war in Ukraine has been going on for a long time. The Russian auto industry will develop without Western partners (“Lada” model). Several of the largest German car manufacturers have decided to padlock their plants in Russia.
During September 2022, a rally was held in Serbia through four cities, Aranđelovac, Topola, Mladenovac and Belgrade. About 50 timeless vehicles visited these cities. There is also a small museum in Arandjelovac where the oldest car is a “Dodge” from 1924, a “Willys” from 1927, a “Chevrolet” from 1928, a “Pontiac” from 1929 and a “Mercedes” from 1934. Passing the Law on Old-timers will contribute to the preservation and increase of this cultural treasure, and it will make registration and acquisition easier for the owners.
In the new 2023. year, representatives of the Independent Trade Union of the “Fiat Chrysler Cars” factory (FCA) in Kragujevac announced on January 9th that they expect preparations for the start of electric vehicle production to continue with greater intensity in the new year. At the same time, the well-known “Tesla” company was fined about 2.2 million dollars, because it did not inform its customers of electric vehicles about the shorter driving range of their electric vehicles at low temperatures. The American electric vehicle maker’s coldweather driving range drops up to 50.5% compared to how they are advertised online (no mention of range loss in sub-zero temperatures).

CHARGING STATIONS FOR ELECTRIC VEHICLES – TECHNICAL FEATURES AND TRENDS

    Machines. Technologies. Materials., Vol. 13 (2019), Issue 11, pg(s) 474-480

One of the prerequisites for achieving the long-term goal of better atmospheric air quality is the transition to a low carbon economy and more sustainable transport through the increased use of electric vehicles. Statistics show that transport generates over 14% of global greenhouse gas emissions and is the main sector in the EU where this indicator is still increasing.
Electric vehicle technology is constantly evolving and they are gaining in efficiency. Generally, electromobility is about charging, managing and using energy. The success of the automotive industry in the future will be determined by how quickly the development of traction motors and batteries will continue, as well as the charging infrastructure.
In order to ensure the normal operation of electric vehicles, it is necessary to build an adequate infrastructure of charging stations. The paper deals with the technical features and trends of charging stations for electric vehicles. The results are a summary and assessment of extending the boundaries of electromobility, contributing to a more sustainable future. Relevant conclusions have been done.

TRAFIC INDICATORS IN CONTEXT OF SUSTAINABLE TRANSPORT DEVELOPMENT

    Machines. Technologies. Materials., Vol. 12 (2018), Issue 4, pg(s) 175-177

Sustainable transport, as one of the areas on which sustainable development should be founded, depends more and more on introduction of electric vehicles in daily traffic. This paper describes part of the results of wider research related to the analysis of all sustainable transport indicators. Since introduction of electric vehicles is supposed to be done stage by stage in the actual transport, deep understanding of its main parameters/indicators is a prerequisite for reliable analysis. The paper identifies traffic and vehicle structure parameters and rang them in hierarchic order. This structure can serve as substructure in more complex structure of all transport parameters in wider researches.

RISKS AND SAFETY ISSUES RELATED TO USE OF ELECTRIC AND HYBRID VEHICLES

    Trans Motauto World, Vol. 2 (2017), Issue 1, pg(s) 37-40

Nowadays hybrid vehicles take increasing share of new road vehicles, but also the electric vehicles have continuous development which is a sign of a serious beginning of new era of their use. The goals of introducing of these vehicles include lowering of the negative impact on the environment and also reducing of their operational costs. Together with the mentioned trends, there are some specifics related to the risks of using this type of vehicles. This paper gives the key elements related to the development of hybrid and electric vehicles with emphasis of the general distinctions in terms of conventional vehicles with internal combustion engines. The paper has focus on risk identification and hazards that can arise from hybrid and electric vehicles, which are specifically related to their technical differences from conventional vehicles with internal combustion engine. Those risks exist when the vehicles are in use, but also even when the vehicle is not in operation. There is also identification of potential risks for the emergency staff when there is accident with these types of vehicles. The paper also addresses the possible harmful events that can happen later or because of improper repairs of the vehicles. Having in mind that the literature sources are quite moderate and in Republic of Macedonia there is none, the conclusion represent an effort to systemize the available knowledge in order to help vehicle users and professionals to mitigate or lower the recognized risks.

AN APPROACH TOWARDS PLANNING OF ELECTRIC VEHICLES CHARGING INFRASTRUCTURE BASED ON VEHICLE AND TRANSPORT STRUCTURE

    Science. Business. Society., Vol. 1 (2016), Issue 6, pg(s) 31-35

Electrical vehicles are in a new phase of development and utilisation. It has been a long time before such initiatives have taken place. In the meantime the transport as a whole (vehicles, roads, traffic, etc.) has been significantly changed. As expected the main role in this process globally, and regionally is taken by the biggest economies and companies. Besides the environmental priorities, the nature of transport which does not recognise borders enforces smaller economies and countries to adopt their policies in this area, and take chances of the development. This seems to be very complex process with number of challenges. Some of them are very specific for different countries, and it is up to the local researchers to recognize and deal with them. This paper addresses the problem of the infrastructure, i.e. developing of a network of charging stations. Since there are number of specific technical aspects accompanying electric vehicles (types of vehicles, range, charging limitations, price, etc.), the research has started with analysis of the vehicle fleet, road network, and intensity of the traffic in different areas of Republic of Macedonia. This picture is compared with technical characteristics of emerging electric vehicles on the market. That was the way to recognize advantages and disadvantages of use of electric vehicles as substitution of some of the vehicles in the actual fleet. Possible development of use of electric vehicles in the country had to be estimated based on foreign experiences, and such policies in the country. As a result an approach towards development of network of charging stations in Republic of Macedonia has been defined. There is an obvious need this view to be widely presented and discussed with a possible outcome to serve as contribution to the challenges similar countries will face soon.

  • MIXED TRAFFIC WITH DIFFERENT PERCENTAGE RATES OF ELECTRIC VEHICLES AND ITS ENVIRONMENTAL INFLUENCE IN URBAN AREAS

    Machines. Technologies. Materials., Vol. 10 (2016), Issue 3, pg(s) 38-41

The development of high power electronics, improvement of existing and emerging of new battery technologies and optimization of electric motors over the last decade are some of the issues that have raised the interest in electric vehicles. Based solely on tank to wheel analyses, electric vehicles are regarded as zero emission vehicles. Regarding these facts, the research presented in this paper is focused on mixed traffic with different percentage rates of electric vehicles and its environmental influence in urban areas. A model of a mixed traffic stream comprised of conventional and electric vehicles was built upon a microscopic single lane urban traffic simulator.

Through number of parallel simulations of solely conventional and mixed traffic stream and analysis of the results, we have evaluated the influence that certain presence rates of electric vehicles in the mixed traffic stream have on the exhaust emission. The results that we have obtained are constrained by the assumption that the electric energy used by the electric vehicles originates from renewable energy sources.

  • ELECTRIC MOBILITY IN THE BALTICS

    Machines. Technologies. Materials., Vol. 9 (2015), Issue 9, pg(s) 32-34

The Baltic States have no fuel resources needed for internal combustion engines. Oil products are imported. Internal combustion automobiles make a negative effect on the surrounding environment, as they produce toxic emissions and noises. One of the ways how to use electric energy – a resource produced in the Baltic States – is the exploitation of electric vehicles. The use of electric vehicles in the Baltic States began in 2010. Since this year, the best infrastructures for electric vehicles and their charging have been created in Estonia. The paper analyses the quantitative and qualitative specifics of electric vehicles and their infrastructures in the Baltic States as well as reviews the development prospects.
