This paper discusses a case of implementing Industry 4.0 solutions with existing legacy informational system in cement-producing factory. One of the main reasons the company wants to keep its existing ERP solution is because is too complex and cannot be ported to a contemporary computer architecture. The plant also needs to automate and modernize the process of loading their products, but the company management does not want to invest in modern computer servers and a new ERP system. That’s why they decided to implement a hybrid solution – a modern Industry 4.0 IoT devices with .NET client application using the existing legacy DEC Alpha as a server. Here, the required technologies used for developing that software solution are overviewed and all parts of the software solution are described. Finally, the benefits and effectiveness of such a hybrid software solution are shown.

The main issues are considered in this topic: the main problems of the design and implementation of high-level systems for the automation of production processes are considered. As part of the digitalization of production, there is a need for the operational management of all enterprise processes at all levels of the system. The work highlights several recommendations for the development of integration of such systems. The research describes the interoperability of various systems of resource management, processes, laboratory, planning for obtaining quality products.

The problem of construction of project management information system (PMIS) is analyzed. The factors under investigation define the problem: the presence of ERP-systems (ERP) in metallurgy industry, the ERP inefficiency for the PMIS construction due to the drawbacks of the functional and historical divergences between the kind of management activity and project management software (PM software); the necessity for the PM software application for the PMIS construction and integration of the PMIS and ERP into unified informational system (IS) for management of all kinds of enterprise activities. To solve this problem information is systematized; variants of integration of PM software with ERP applied in metallurgy industry are classified and proposed.

Modern products become more and more complex and along with this, the requirements for reducing time-to-market and costs are increasing continually. The demand for customized products is growing at the same rate, as well as the search for more effective and efficient utilization of resources and energy, which is already a distinguish feature of industrial development nowadays. In turn, increased agility and velocity of production processes significantly increase the requirements for modern production systems. In order for industrial companies to survive and keep their competitiveness in such a dynamic environment, they must not only increase their productivity, but to improve their operations strategy in terms of agility as well, offering their goods and services. Latter puts new challenges to modern companies.

Reuse-based software engineering is a software engineering strategy where the development process is geared to reusing existing software. The move to reuse-based development has been in response to demands for lower software production and maintenance costs, faster delivery of systems, and increased software quality. More and more companies see their software as a valuable asset. They are promoting reuse to increase their return on software investments.
