A new type of nail for wooden structures with increased resilience

    Innovations, Vol. 13 (2025), Issue 2, pg(s) 55-57

In the following work, we present the results from a research of a type of nail with a new form of section, in comparison to the round section that currently used nails have. This new form is similar to an equilateral triangle, the sides of which’ are curves [Reuleaux Triangle]. The body section of this new type of nail has three curves and three edges; his surface SR is with 5.56% larger than the surface SC of a round nail with the same section area. From the experimental research that has been made so far, it was established: (i) because of the larger compaction of the wooden material in the ends of the edges, and of the larger surface, you get a bigger friction force, resulting in a pulling-out force Fto,R that is on average twice as bigger as the pulling-out force Fto,C; (ii) because that the new form of nail has edges, this leads to bigger resistance during the rotating of the joined wooden elements one against another – the moment Mr is on average 60% bigger than the one with elements, joined with a normal nail. These advantages, as well as the use of the existing technology and machines for the production of nails without having to effect any major changes, create the conditions for the application of the new type of nail in construction, furniture production and in the everyday life, for an output of products with larger resistance to external forces. This effect will be especially useful for increasing the residential buildings’ resilience during earthquakes, hurricanes and other natural disasters.

    Industry 4.0, Vol. 6 (2021), Issue 3, pg(s) 126-130

Information and communication technologies (ICT) are a set of equipment (devices, systems, etc.) and techniques with associated software (software systems and software tools) that have been developed and used for more efficient communication, creation, distribution, storage and management of information. The IDI (ICT Development Index) index is most often used to measure ICT resources, which is defined as a composite index that combines 11 indicators (classified into 3 sub-indices: Access, Use and Skills). Data on values of IDI index has been retrieved from Measuring the Information Society Report (MISR), which since 2008 has been publishing by International Telecommunications Union (ITU). The IDI index for 2017 was determined for 176 countries of the world, with the first on the ranking list was Iceland with IDI2017=8.98 and the last Eritrea with IDI2017=0.96. The mean value of IDI index for 2017 was Avg=5.11, standard deviation was StD=2.22 and coefficient of variation was CoV=43.52. In this paper is given of analysis of IDI (ICT development index) for measuring ICT resources in Georgia. The data were approximated using a 3rd degree polynomial regression model (PRM3) with a correlation coefficient R=0.9964, determination coefficient R^2=0.9928 and adjustment coefficient of determination is AdjR^2=0.9885.

Investgation properties of part – holder of breaking shoe beam made of SG60/SE300 steel cast

    Machines. Technologies. Materials., Vol. 18 (2024), Issue 9, pg(s) 304-307

The main reason to perform this research investigation was to find a reason for appearing failures in exploratory condition of a part holder of breaking shoe beam. This part is incorporated in an assembly in railway wagon. This part together with few others was damaged in exploratory condition. It means that cracks were noticed on these parts. Some parts were completely broken. Because of that purchaser of parts complained of received parts to the producer. One of these parts was delivered to Prof Cvetkovski to find a reason and to give opinion about the reason for failure. The damaged parts are made of cast steel SG60/SE300. Many types of investigation was performed in order to solve this problem. As first visual control was done. After that, radiographic control was made. Investigations continued with determination of chemical composition and macro and micro metallography and determination of non-metallic inclusions. Finally mechanical testing like tensile testing, hardness measurement and impact toughness were performed too. Performed research confirmed that typical casting defects in the investigated part like the hot tears, slag inclusions, shrinkage porosity and segregation are the main reasons for failure of the delivered parts, holder of breaking shoes i.e. appearing of cracks or their completely fracture.
